Digital artist Michael Winkelman, aka Beeple, told The New Yorker that he has converted record-breaking non-fungible token (NFT) sales from Ethereum to US dollars.
“I’m not even close to being a crypt adept. I’ve been doing digital art long before all this bullshit. If NFTs evaporate tomorrow, I will continue to do this, ”the artist summed up.
Everydays: The First 5000 Days sold for $ 69.3 million. After deducting auction house fees and taxes, Winckelmann received $ 53 million.
The painting is a collage of thousands of works by the artist, published on the Internet since 2007. The buyer turned out to be Vignesh Sundaresan, hiding under the pseudonym Metakovan.
At the end of February, Beeple’s Trump NFT token was resold for $ 6.6 million . In December 2020, the artist bailed out $ 582,000 for Crossroad.
In March, Winckelmann sold the painting “OCEAN FRONT” for $ 6 million. He will transfer the proceeds to the fight against climate change.
