Federal and regional operators record system failures due to the operation of equipment with the function of deep traffic filtering (DPI), established under the so-called law on the sovereign runet.
The failure due to DPI was reported to Kommersant by sources in the Obit company, which is a large regional operator. According to them, the equipment was installed at the request of Roskomnadzor “at a cut between the Obit equipment and the global network.”
To restore work during the crash, the company excluded DPI from the traffic flow pattern, the sources noted. Obit officials declined to comment.
Roskomnadzor knows about the Obit incident:
“Three hours later, the work of technical means of countering threats resumed in a regular mode,” the ministry said.
Roskomnadzor stressed that an independent change in the parameters of such equipment is a violation of the law and is punishable by a fine of up to 1 million rubles.
Representatives of the Ministry of Digital Industry said that “its owner is responsible for the failure of the infrastructure.” However, who means it is not completely clear – Obit owns the infrastructure of its network, but the equipment belongs to Roskomnadzor.
Failures due to DPI equipment were also reported by a source in one of the major telecom operators. Representatives of MTS, MegaFon, Tele2, Rostelecom and Vimpelcom declined to comment.
Recall that experts are confident that Roskomnadzor used DPI when slowing down the speed of Twitter . Then, simultaneously with the beginning of the slowdown of the social network, failures occurred in the work of many other services and sites.
The obligation to install DPI equipment for Internet providers is spelled out in the law on sovereign runet. Read more about it in the Hodlmonks exclusive.
