Major Cineplex Group has launched a pilot project that will allow viewers to pay for tickets with cryptocurrency. This is reported by local media.
Cinemas executives explained their initiative with a desire to support innovative payment methods.
The project is being implemented with the participation of the local cryptocurrency exchange Zippex and the payment company RapidZ. To use the service, the user needs to download the RapidZ mobile wallet, scan the QR code in the ticket vending machine and send bitcoins to the specified address.
Since March 4, the system has been operating at the Major Cineplex Ratchayothin branch in Bangkok. By the end of 2021, the solution will be extended to all 39 cinemas of the chain throughout Thailand.
As a reminder, in February, the Tourism Authority of Thailand announced plans to introduce digital assets into the industry to make the country attractive to foreign cryptocurrency holders, primarily from Japan.
